Roman Republic AR Quinarius(2.17g, 11h). Anonymous. After 211 B.C. Rome mint. Helmeted head of Roma right; behind, V. Border of dots / Dioscuri galloping right; in linear frame, ROMA. Line border. Crawford 44/6; RSC 3.
Ex RBW Collection, purchased from Antiqua, March 1997
I believe this coin to be from a hoard dispersed in commerce in 1996 and 1997 which contained many AR quinarii and possibly AR denarii from Rome and Southern Italy. Unfortunately, the hoard contents were not recorded, but based on the number of similar coins sold at the same time, likely could have provided important information of interest to Republican numismatics and the relative chronology of these types which is still disputed and likely less compressed than Crawford suggests.
