Cr. 95/1a "VB" victoriatus, 211-208 B.C., uncertain mint(Traditionally, Vibo Valentia)
Roman Republic AR Victoriatus(17 mm, 2.54g, 7h). Anonymous("VB" series). ca. 211-208 B.C. Uncertain mint(traditionally, Vibo Valentia). Laureate head of Jupiter right. Border of dots / Victory standing right, crowning trophy with wreath; VB ligate on exergue between. ROMA in exergue. Line border. Crawford 95/1a; BMCRR Italy 233; Russo RBW 389
This type has been traditionally attributed to either the city of Vibo Valentia or alternatively a member of the gens Vibia but the hoard evidence suggests a date of minting earlier than the founding of Vibo Valentia circa 194 B.C. and in the absence of any Vibii who fit the bill I have gone with Crawford's "uncertain mint" attribution here.
