Cr. 89/- McCabe C1 triens, 208 B.C., Apulia
Roman Republic Æ Triens(20mm, 5.81g), anonymous(style of Club series), 208 B.C., Apulia. Helmeted head of Minerva right; above, •••• / Prow right; above, ROMA; below, ••••. Cf. McCabe group C1(this denomination unlisted); Crawford -, cf. Crawford 89 bronzes for style
McCabe's paper in Essays Russo does not cite or illustrate a triens of group C1 but this coin matches the style of the other coins cited in every way and the obverse style is a match to the signed club triens. The coin is lighter than one would expect for this series, but as the style matches I must conclude it is official. Perhaps it is overstruck?
