Roman Republic AR Denarius(4.01g), 84 BC, Rome mint. P Furius Crassipes, Curule Aedile. Head of Cybele right wearing turreted crown; behind, AED·CVR downwards then deformed foot downwards/ Curule chair inscribed P·FOVRIVS; in exergue, CRASSVPES. Crawford 356/1d

Purchased from Kölner Münzkabinett, 15 March 2025, ex Mario Ratto fixed price list 1968-3(July-September 1968), 167

This type was struck under the first Curule Aedile to mint coinage and, with the exception of the foot on the obverse(referring to the moneyer's name Crassipes=Club footed) the devices all relate to the Curule Aedileship. The moneyer is otherwise unknown. This coin is a very rare reverse variety where the reverse exergual legend reads CRASSVPES instead of CRASSIPES.
